Billy and Jess were with Declan and DeâGeer when Monroe entered the room, all gathered around Billyâs portable monitor setup.
âThis looks interesting,â Monroe said, pouring himself a coffee. âIs Billy doing a show and tell?â
âNot yet, Guv,â Billy grinned. âBut we might have something. Iâm going through Jessâs notes, as sheâs been word crunching for me.â
Monroe nodded as Declan and DeâGeer walked over to him.
âSo, it was the manager, Flick McCarthy,â Monroe said. âShe sent the papers the press release, trying to sort damage limitation for her dead client. She used Sampson because she didnât expect us to turn up.â
He looked around.
âWhere are the others?â
âAnjli and Cooper are checking Pryce and Crockâs rooms, sir,â DeâGeer replied officiously. âBullman and Doctor Marcos are still in the tent area.â
âAnd youâre here because â¦?â
âBecause I asked him to wait.â Billy looked around from the computer. âAs I said, I might have something, and itâs a possible motive.â
âOh, I like possible motives,â Monroe smiled. âShow and tell, laddie. Show and tell.â
âOkay,â Billy turned fully now to face Declan, DeâGeer and Monroe, while Jess carried on scrolling through a list on an iPad. âWhen we started last night, I didnât have much to go on, and we were looking for anything.â
âAye, I get that.â
âSo, I started looking through previous TV shows Montgomery Pryce was in. Seeing if there were any coincidences, or problems with the cast, anything.â
âIâm guessing you found something?â
âWell, Robert Standish was involved with both Young Robin and Hooded Outlaw, and there were a couple of things here and there, but nothing major,â Billy said. âBut, by that point, I was examining Young Robin. We know when Hooded Outlaw was created, it was supposed to be a direct sequel, right? But Pryce didnât want the actors who were with him in the old show to gain success again. There was a different Sheriff, so that was easy, and the only characters they had that would have crossed over were Marion, Tuck and Little John, as the others werenât used in the former.â
âOkay,â Monroe sat down. âI can see thereâs motive here, but weâre talking over thirty years since they lost their jobs. Why kill him now?â
âWell, to be honest, I donât know if they were the killers, but I wanted to check everything anyway.â Billy turned to the computer, tapping on the keyboard. âFelicity Marshall played Marion, she was sixteen when she got the part, was a teenage Olympic-hopeful archer when she was cast, and it looks like she acted little afterwards. And Michael Bailey was Little John. He did a few things before and after, mainly one-shots in things like Doctor Who or The Bill, nothing as big as he had, pardon the pun, as Little John. His last role, in fact, was some small-budget movie with Montgomery Pryce, a couple of years before Hooded Outlaw, and directed by Robert Standish.â
âThey would have been planning the show then,â Declan commented. âBailey might have even lost the role while filming. That could have made him angry enough to kill.
